Slides are Open!

August 24th, 2020

The Governor's Order has been updated and starting Tuesday, August 25th, we have been able to put some of our slides back into the rotation!

We are celebrating this opportunity to add attractions to the mix
but we will be doing so responsibly. We will do our best to communicate
what is open on our website, but we cannot guarantee that a specific attraction will be open for a full operating day.
We will continue to not only follow, but exceed the mandated orders and guidelines.
Social distancing will continue to be a cooperative effort.

Come enjoy our Runaway Bay million gallon wave pool, Jungle Falls river, quarter mile Adventure River and TropiCool Pool in the great outdoors!

For the littlest pirates, Buccaneer Bay wading area, tipping bucket and kiddie river!

JUST ANNOUNCED: Select slides will be open beginning Tuesday, August 25th. Visit our Attractions page

IMPORTANT UPDATE: SEASON PASSES EXTENDED TO 2021

July 24th, 2020

Dear Valued Season Passholders and Guests:

First and foremost, I hope that you and your families are safe and healthy.

In my update on June 30th, I shared that regrettably, the state of Virginia had determined that waterslides are an “interactive play feature” and therefore could not be open during Phase III. As a result of this last second decision, we extended season passes through 2021, until the date in 2020 that slides were opened.

We have decided that the time has come to extend all 2020 Season Passes through the entire 2021 season. Rest assured, we have not given up on the quest to get our waterslides open. But as we continue our efforts, we want our valued passholders to have the peace of mind that you have the remainder of 2020 season plus all of 2021 to use your season passes.

Nothing is more important to Ocean Breeze than the well-being of our guests and staff. Even though we are disappointed with the restrictions in place, we have continued to raise the bar for cleanliness, disinfection, sanitization and the overall safety of our facility. We are so proud of our employees and appreciative of the positive feedback and support from our visitors after you have seen and experienced the dedication of our staff to providing a safe visit for your families and friends.

To be very clear – we 100% support all efforts to control COVID-19. However, we feel that there should be consistent policies that do not favor some industries over others. As a reminder, according to the CDC, “There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.” With scientific support like this, it is difficult to understand how water slides are closed, but playground slides, arcades, beaches, Family Entertainment Centers, museums, etc. are all allowed to be open.

Again, we greatly appreciate all your support during this unprecedented time. Stay safe. Stay well. Stay positive.

Thank you,

Brian Baker

General Manager

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Slides at Ocean Breeze Will NOT Be Open Under Updated Order

June 30th, 2020

Dear Valued Season Passholders:

Under Governor Northam’s plan and Phase 3, which is scheduled to begin on July 1st, we were given the green light to reopen our waterpark. Our rides have been inspected and cleared by the City of Virginia Beach to open. In May, we presented our comprehensive 40-page operating plan that outlined in great detail enhanced safety measures. Hundreds of employees have been hired, trained and have been working around the clock to get Ocean Breeze ready for you!

Today, June 30, we were contacted by the Virginia Department of Health and told that they made the decision to not allow water slides to open. We were completely blindsided by this decision. There is no mention of this in the Governor’s Safer At Home Phase III Entertainment and Public Amusement, which water parks fall under. To be clear – this was a decision made at the state level. We have the complete support of health department officials in Virginia Beach. We have worked tirelessly all day to get this verdict immediately reversed – with no success.

It is inconceivable that water slides, most of which are for individuals on inner tubes travelling through chlorinated water with plenty of social distancing, would not be allowed! This statement from the CDC is actually featured on the Forward Virginia web page: “There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.”

Beaches are open, Playgrounds at parks are open, Go Karts can operate at FECs, Coasters are allowed to operate at theme parks.  Again, we were absolutely stunned by this last -minute notice from the Health Department and can see no justification for this addendum.

While we try to work through the politics and confusion, I must once again ask for your continued patience and support. Please know that our staff is also devastated by this decision by the state. We will be opening our wave pool, Adventure River, activity pool, and Jungle Falls river tomorrow and Thursday for your relaxation and enjoyment. The tipping bucket and Little Amazon lazy river will be open for children. Plus, we’ll have the music playing, and plenty of good food and drinks.  You will be able to process your season pass while enjoying some fun in the great outdoors. We are so excited to welcome you back!

I also want you to know that we are truly sorry for this delay. Regardless of how unfair this temporary mandate from the Health Department may be, we will work to make it right for our passholders. Season passes will be extended into 2021 for the number of days our slides are closed. As soon as we know when we can open our water slides, we will let you know.

 Sincerely,

Brian Baker

General Manager
