Slides are open!

The Governor's Order has been updated and starting Tuesday, August 25th, 2020 we have been able to put some
of our slides back into the rotation!

We are celebrating this opportunity to add attractions to the mix
but we will be doing so responsibly. We will do our best to communicate
what is open on our website, but we cannot guarantee that a specific attraction will be open for a full operating day.
We will continue to not only follow, but exceed
the mandated orders and guidelines.
Social distancing will continue to be a cooperative effort.

Come enjoy our Runaway Bay million gallon wave pool, Jungle Falls river, quarter mile Adventure River and TropiCool Pool in the great outdoors!

For the littlest pirates, Buccaneer Bay wading area, tipping bucket and kiddie river!

JUST ANNOUNCED: Select slides will be open beginning Tuesday, August 25th, 2020. Visit our Attractions page

Dear Valued Season Passholders and Guests:

First and foremost, I hope that you and your families are safe and healthy.

In my update on June 30th, I shared that regrettably, the state of Virginia had determined that waterslides are an “interactive play feature” and therefore could not be open during Phase III. As a result of this last second decision, we extended season passes through 2021, until the date in 2020 that slides were opened.

We have decided that the time has come to extend all 2020 Season Passes through the entire 2021 season. Rest assured, we have not given up on the quest to get our waterslides open. But as we continue our efforts, we want our valued passholders to have the peace of mind that you have the remainder of 2020 season plus all of 2021 to use your season passes.

Nothing is more important to Ocean Breeze than the well-being of our guests and staff. Even though we are disappointed with the restrictions in place, we have continued to raise the bar for cleanliness, disinfection, sanitization and the overall safety of our facility. We are so proud of our employees and appreciative of the positive feedback and support from our visitors after you have seen and experienced the dedication of our staff to providing a safe visit for your families and friends.

To be very clear – we 100% support all efforts to control COVID-19. However, we feel that there should be consistent policies that do not favor some industries over others. As a reminder, according to the CDC, “There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.” With scientific support like this, it is difficult to understand how water slides are closed, but playground slides, arcades, beaches, Family Entertainment Centers, museums, etc. are all allowed to be open.

Again, we greatly appreciate all your support during this unprecedented time. Stay safe. Stay well. Stay positive.

Thank you,

Brian Baker

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Slides at Ocean Breeze Will NOT Be Open Under Updated Order

Dear Valued Season Passholders:

Under Governor Northam’s plan and Phase 3, which is scheduled to begin on July 1st, we were given the green light to reopen our waterpark. Our rides have been inspected and cleared by the City of Virginia Beach to open. In May, we presented our comprehensive 40-page operating plan that outlined in great detail enhanced safety measures. Hundreds of employees have been hired, trained and have been working around the clock to get Ocean Breeze ready for you!

Today, June 30, we were contacted by the Virginia Department of Health and told that they made the decision to not allow water slides to open. We were completely blindsided by this decision. There is no mention of this in the Governor’s Safer At Home Phase III Entertainment and Public Amusement, which water parks fall under. To be clear – this was a decision made at the state level. We have the complete support of health department officials in Virginia Beach. We have worked tirelessly all day to get this verdict immediately reversed – with no success.

It is inconceivable that water slides, most of which are for individuals on inner tubes travelling through chlorinated water with plenty of social distancing, would not be allowed! This statement from the CDC is actually featured on the Forward Virginia web page: “There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.”

Beaches are open, Playgrounds at parks are open, Go Karts can operate at FECs, Coasters are allowed to operate at theme parks.  Again, we were absolutely stunned by this last -minute notice from the Health Department and can see no justification for this addendum.

While we try to work through the politics and confusion, I must once again ask for your continued patience and support. Please know that our staff is also devastated by this decision by the state. We will be opening our wave pool, Adventure River, activity pool, and Jungle Falls river tomorrow and Thursday for your relaxation and enjoyment. The tipping bucket and Little Amazon lazy river will be open for children. Plus, we’ll have the music playing, and plenty of good food and drinks.  You will be able to process your season pass while enjoying some fun in the great outdoors. We are so excited to welcome you back!

I also want you to know that we are truly sorry for this delay. Regardless of how unfair this temporary mandate from the Health Department may be, we will work to make it right for our passholders. Season passes will be extended into 2021 for the number of days our slides are closed. As soon as we know when we can open our water slides, we will let you know.

We know you will have lots of questions and we hope for the most part, that you are excited that we have made every effort to open under very unusual circumstances, because we are so ready to see you!!!

We realize that many of you are anxiously awaiting an opening date for Ocean Breeze and may be frustrated that we don't have one yet. Please know that we share your frustration and are every bit as anxious as you are to officially kick off summer and say to our guests and our own families – let’s go to Ocean Breeze!

To be perfectly candid – Ocean Breeze Waterpark is not closed because of a choice we made. We are bound by the decisions of the Governor’s office. Unfortunately, the current Phase 2 guidelines do not permit amusement parks to be open. But we are working hard behind the scenes to get Ocean Breeze open as quickly as possible! In fact, our management team has developed a comprehensive plan to safely open Ocean Breeze Waterpark. We have shared our plan with officials at the Governor’s Office, the Governor’s Task Force and the Virginia Department of Health. We are confident that this plan will allow guests of Ocean Breeze Waterpark to have a safe, fun experience at our facility.  But again, we are awaiting the approval of the Governor. As soon, as we have guidance from the Governor’s office that we can reopen, we will set an open date.

But enough about what we cannot do.

Let’s talk about what we CAN do:

First and foremost, we are working hard to get the water park prepared to open. The pools, slides and snack stands are getting prepped and ready. Staff is being hired and trained.

We can also share our enhanced safety and cleanliness guidelines with you. When we get approval to open, visiting the waterpark may look a little different as we all work together to take care of each other.

We have officially added dates to this season and the waterpark calendar will now include weekends through SEPTEMBER 27, 2020. All 2020 season passes and day tickets will be valid through this date.

Finally, we would like to announce special benefits for our valued season passholders. Any season pass that is purchased by Opening Day 2020, will now be valid through June 30, 2021. These passholders will also receive a $10 Cashless Kickback for use at select food and retail outlets in the park.

Additionally, all passholders will now receive the following upgraded benefits:

  • Early open for passholders every Tuesday and Thursday
  • $1 hot dogs every Tuesday
  • Virtual Processing of your permanent Season Pass ID. Click here to have your card ready and waiting for you on Opening Day.

We can’t thank all of you enough for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. The entire Ocean Breeze team can’t wait to see your smiling faces again soon!

To Our Waterpark Family

First and foremost, we hope that you and your family are safe and healthy.

This weekend was supposed to be our opening celebration of summer. We want you to know that we understand how you feel. Disappointed. Impatient. Of course the weather is perfect. READY FOR FUN. And The hardest part is not knowing the exact day things will start to resemble our previous “normal life.” We wish we could tell our children when baseball, dance class and having friends over will return. When they can safely visit and hug their grandparents again. And yes, we wish more than anything that we could tell them the definite day they can splash in the waves and ride the water slides at Ocean Breeze.

And although we can’t yet answer those questions – we can tell them that the time is getting closer.

Our message now to all our loyal, and excited season passholders and guests is simply - we can’t wait to see you having fun again. We can’t wait to see you and your family smile and laugh while making great memories at our water park. And we really can’t wait to see the looks on your faces when you experience our new family raft ride, Operation Splashdown for the very first time. At six stories high, and over 600 feet long, it will tower over the park and provide an incredible view from the top and an exhilarating ride back down!

Finally, we want to reassure you that as always, nothing is more important than your safety. Our families and friends come here! Your family and friends do too! Ocean Breeze is going to take care of you. Of course, our award-winning lifeguard team will be back on duty. We will be implementing even more rigorous cleaning procedures that include disinfecting and sanitizing surfaces constantly throughout the day.  There will be physical distancing restrictions in place for lines and park seating. And we are likely to limit park attendance to help maintain distance between guests as we find ways to maximize the guest experience while maintaining a fun, clean and safe park. As we get closer to Opening Day, we will also be announcing additional benefits for our faithful season passholders to help make this summer extra special.

Again, thank you for all your patience and support. We wish each of you and your families good health. Take care of each other right now, and then let us take care of you this summer.
